The
GIS Research Center at Feng Chia University (FCU), established
in August 1995, was the first and foremost GIS establishment
in Taiwan to be formally approved by the Ministry of
Education. Even during the first decade of its inception,
the GIS center made rapid strides in the field of Spatial
Information Technology. The center's efforts were dedicated
towards developing advanced computing techniques and
integrating the advances in Information Technologies
with geospatial tools and techniques. The center strives
to enhance its expertise in the realms of Geographic
Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning System
(GPS), and Remote Sensing (RS). Keeping pace with the
information revolution, the center continually updates
and incorporates state-of-the-art techniques such as
the Internet, wireless communication and visualization
technologies within its core research. In addition to
serving as a hub of GIS Research, the center also offers
well-designed GIS courses and strives to promote environmental
awareness and troubleshoot related issues.
